For the longest time, the 24 Hours of Lemons wondered why-oh-why none of the Texas teams had run a

yet. Bring us a slab, they said. Then a team in Michigan did it first, and the buncha gottdang Californians that run the series

at all of us for being beaten to our state’s own thing.
But we had a good reason. The consensus among many of the Texas racers was that slab culture is one of Texas’ national treasures. It is a uniquely Gulf Coast vehicular phenomenon, and the well-done examples are rolling works of art. We didn’t want to be seen as mocking an automotive subculture we’re not a part of, either, as that is
not cool
.
But I
can
feature what goes into making a slab on

, and it is my one, lone goal for 2019 to share the incredible work that goes into these machines with the world. I am from Texas, after all, and it would be a great disservice to my state of both birth and residence
not
to feature a slab.
84s! Candy paint! Sound systems! Neon! Hydraulics! Slow! Loud! And bangin’! This is all stuff that’s been a side note at most on the more performance- or restoration-oriented builds I’ve featured, and I want to see it all in great detail. (Possibly in person, because I’m right here, my dudes.)
My contact info is

. I’m in Austin. Build of the Week is back this week. Please send me good slabs.
(Other cool cars are still good to send, too.)

I will let you know when the WK Stormcaller is ready.
It will ... be a while. Fitting a Hemi 6.1 top end to a 5.7 bottom end with a 6.1 crank only sounds simple. But for the love of all that is holy do not let me forget to take photos.
Also, should I go Hemi Orange legit CFRP engine cover or basic black? Obviously with a custom upper. (Noise insulation is important in a luxury SUV!)

I like the orange unless you’re going for the complete sleeper look.
(This sounds interesting, especially since the list of submissions tends to be import-heavy. Send me more ‘Murica, everyone.)

Look at Long Voyager’s m inivan builds, they’re super cool. So are his Plymouth Acclaims, the stuff he makes is pretty wild IMO. They always confuse new Oppos, myself included.
HFV has no HFV. But somehow has 2 motorcycles

Oh, mostly sleeper. B ut this lives under the hood. So I could paint it a nice shade of fusch ia with neon lights and a disco ball if I wanted and nobody’d know unless I showed them. But the hemi orange is an accessory straight out of the catalog. (Assuming it clears the intake. It may not.)
And yes. Let’s stick with “interesting.” That sounds MUCH better than “an obscene amount of money to spend on a 10 year old Jeep.”

They’re magical. I threw him on the list of stuff I’d love to hear more about, but if he’s reading this and wants so send over an email...hint hint.

I grew up in Houston, the car culture in Austin kind of sucks comparatively . I’m starting to see a few donks around now. But I miss in Houston where at every stop light some ass tries to race you in their mom’s grand am sport (me!)

Back when you started BOTW, I threw a comment his way about it. It might be sitting in your inbox.

Grand Am FTW.
My first legit job that was reported to the IRS was next to an a motorcycle bar. The type of place Hunter Thompson would have hung in for his book. And my boss drove an early 80's Grand Am, with nothing good to say about it.
Consequently FTW has always has one meaning for me when I see it.
